SUNDAY 20 SEPTEMBER — VENICE LIDO
The 5th CMP Venice Lido Beach Trail starts from the Blue Moon beach resort. The 1 km Alì Family Run goes at 10:00, followed by the 5K and 11K at 10:30. The official event homepage was still displaying Registration Open when we checked on 18 September.

If your idea of Venice is all bridges, stone lanes and vaporetti, Sunday’s race is a useful reminder that the city also has a long beach, dunes, pine forest and a seawall stretching toward the San Nicolò lighthouse. The CMP Venice Lido Beach Trail is designed around that side of the lagoon.

The event is organised by Venicemarathon in collaboration with the Comune di Venezia and Venezia Spiagge, and forms part of the city’s Le Città in Festa programme. It is relevant to runners, families and anyone planning a Lido day on Sunday morning.

THE SHORT VERSION
Date: Sunday 20 September 2026. Base: Blue Moon, Lido di Venezia. Family Run: 1 km at 10:00. 5K + 11K: 10:30. Terrain: beach, sand dunes, pine forest and seawall. Registration: still shown open on the official event site at our 18 September check.

01 · Start times: 10:00 for families, 10:30 for the 5K and 11K

The Comune di Venezia’s current event notice gives a simple race-morning sequence. The Alì Family Run starts at 10:00, then the 5K and 11K start at 10:30. All three use the Blue Moon beach resort as the event headquarters and start/finish area.

For spectators or Lido visitors, that means the busiest race activity is concentrated around Blue Moon from mid-morning. If you are heading to the same part of the island for the beach, lunch or another appointment, leave a little extra time around the event area.

02 · The 5K and 11K are beach trails, not ordinary road races

Both main races use mixed natural terrain: sand, dunes, pine forest and the seawall. The organisers describe the route as technical and challenging because runners switch repeatedly between different surfaces and natural obstacles.

The longer course extends toward the San Nicolò end of the Lido. That gives the race a very different feel from a flat city-centre road event, even though the overall distances are short enough to attract a broad field.

03 · The 1 km Alì Family Run is the low-pressure option

The Alì Family Run is about 1 kilometre and takes place entirely along the shoreline. It is aimed primarily at families, children and accompanying adults rather than competitive runners.

The Comune says participation is by voluntary donation, with the proceeds going to the Associazione di Volontariato Nucleo Protezione Civile Lido di Venezia. That makes it the easiest way to take part without committing to the 5K or 11K.

04 · Registration was still open at our 18 September check

The official race website was still showing Registration Open when TATS checked it on Friday 18 September. Because bib availability can change quickly this close to race day, use the organiser’s live registration page rather than assuming a place will still be available when you arrive.

On 27 August, the organiser said the event had already passed 1,500 registered runners and that 500 bibs remained at that point. That older number is useful context for the scale of the event, but it is not a promise about how many entries remain now.

05 · Blue Moon is the event hub — and the day continues after the finish

Blue Moon hosts the race village, start and finish. The Comune also confirms the return of the post-race Beach & Pasta Party, while the organiser’s current site offers add-ons including beach umbrella bookings and companion pasta-party vouchers.

For non-runners, this is worth knowing because the event is designed as more than a start-line-and-go-home race. Expect a longer sports-and-beach atmosphere around the venue into the day.

06 · What residents and travellers should plan around

Runners: verify your live registration details and any race-pack instructions directly with the organiser, then allow enough time to reach Blue Moon before your start. Do not rely on an old screenshot or a third-party listing for last-minute instructions.

Families: the 10:00 Family Run is the gentlest way to join in. The shoreline format and voluntary-donation model make it deliberately accessible.

Other Lido visitors: you do not need to avoid the island. Just expect a noticeable concentration of runners, volunteers and supporters around Blue Moon and the beach-trail corridor on Sunday morning.

Travellers staying in central Venice: remember that the Lido is reached by water transport. Build the vaporetto journey and a margin for walking into your morning rather than treating Blue Moon like a ten-minute detour from San Marco.

07 · Why this is a distinctly Venetian running event

The race’s appeal is the contrast. Competitors move from shoreline and dunes into pine forest and out toward the seawall, while the broader event sits inside a beach resort on an island many first-time visitors only associate with the film festival.

Venicemarathon has also positioned the trail as an end-of-summer event that mixes sport with a day at the seaside. By late August, more than 1,500 runners had registered, showing that it has grown well beyond a small local fun run.
